Mercari App Review
There are a lot of money making apps out there that are designed to help you make money fast. So, if you’re looking for a quick and easy part time job or just a way to clean out your garage, what’s the best way to do it? In this article, we’re going to examine the Mercari App and see if it might be one of the “apps” you decide is right for you!
What is the Mercari App?
The Mercari App is an app that helps you sell your items. Those things can be secondhand or products you’ve made/imported. Mercari is a latin word which actually means “to do business” or “to trade.” Suitable name for an online marketplace!
How Mercari Works
It’s pretty much your standard online marketplace. You post your items for sale, someone buys it, you ship it out. But, there are a few more things to keep in mind.
- Good Photos are what counts. Remember, you’re selling something and the more appealing your photos are, the easier it’s going to be to sell it! Plus, if you’re to going to take the time and create a “great” photo for what you’re looking to sell, why not also “kill two birds with one stone” and post that photo to a photo sharing platform like FOAP and see if you can’t also make a few bucks by selling licensing rights to your image.
- Descriptions count too! Write a catchy description that’s not too overboard, but gives all the necessary information and has a bit of a salesy tone to it. This will attract buyers.
- Share your posts. Get more traction by sharing your posts on social media. The more people who know what you’re selling, the more you’re going to sell, right? Probably.
- You’ll also want to be sure and remember that Mercari is also going to charge a 10% service charge to they buyer of your product so you’ll want to price your item accordingly to be sure you’ll be able to sell you product quickly.
Who founded Mercari?
Mercari started in Japan and has made it’s way to the USA and beyond. It’s also received around $115,000,000 worth of investment – which in the tech world is a pretty good number, but isn’t HUGE. The founders of the app are: Shintaro Yamada, a former employee of Rakuten (Japan’s biggest ecommerce site), Hiroshi Toshima, and Tommy Tomishima, founder of Bank of Innovation, and Ryo Ishizuka, who also founded RockYou! So needless to say, there are a lot of really smart people and some really deep pockets working diligently to make sure that the Mercari app is going to succeed!
Is Mercari Free to use?
Yes, the Mercari app is free to use, but that doesn’t mean it’s 100% free. When you do sell a product, you, the seller, must understand that:
- a 10% transaction fee will be added to their purchase price which the buyer must pay.
- and the seller will need to determine who will need to pay for the shipping cost? The buyer or the seller?
You will know the amount of each transaction when you list the product for sale?
No, there is no “chart” that will help you figure it out before you start to list. Which means that you’ll want to have a general idea what these costs will be before you decide on the price you want to sell your product for.
Mercari does not help with returns.
Just like other person-to-person marketplaces, sales are between buyer and seller. Mercari is just a platform, so they do not get involved with returns or handle dissatisfied customers. As a buyer and a seller, you are responsible for your own dealings.
Will you make money on Mercari?
Yes if you have stuff to sell! As long as you have stuff you want to get rid of, you’ll be able to sell it on Mercari. If you don’t have anything to sell, however, then you’ll probably need to look into another money making app if you’re looking to make money using the internet.
Another way to look at it…
If you are going to make a big purchase for furniture or an appliance or anything else, ask yourself if you really need it to be brand new? If you do not, then you might as well get a second hand item on Mercari. So, instead of being a seller, you can be a buyer. And you know what they say – a penny saved is a penny earned! We believe it. If you save $50 or $100 on a piece of furniture, think of what you could do with it. In fact, you could actually save hundreds of dollars if you really look around for a deal.
But here’s the thing…
There are a lot of other ways that one can “sell” things on line. You can use Craigslist, LetGo, OfferUp, Ebay, etc, etc… Which means that at the end of the day, you’re simply going to need to determine which approach is right for you.
The one nice thing…
About trying multiple online selling apps is that each one is likely to have its own set of “loyal” users which means that if you have a “unique” product that might not have a HUGE audience using multiple sales platforms could be extremely helpful.
If you’re trying to sell a scuba tank but live in Nebraska, placing a local ad on Craigslist might not be your best bet.
Of what it is you’re trying to sell, we here at TermLife2Go feel that the Mercari app is a great additional tool one can use to help get rid of things you no longer want to own, or can also be a great way for you to get your “foot wet” and become a self employed salesman of all sorts of items you can think of!
Now you may be asking…
“Why is TermLife2Go writing a review of Mercari?”
That’s simple, we’re writing our review of the Mercari app today because our primary goal here at TermLife2Go is to help improve the financial security of all of our clients. And while we believe that purchasing a term life insurance policy is a great way to do that, we understand that not all of our clients are going to be able to qualify or afford a life insurance policy at this time in their life (Interested in knowing what it would cost, just click here Term Life Insurance Quotes).
And rather than…
Just hang up with folks who aren’t “ready” to purchase a life insurance policy, we like to provide tools that might be able to help their future outlook until which time they can qualify or afford a life insurance policy.
Other than that…
There really isn’t much too it. We are not associated with the Mercari app at all and we do not receive any kind of compensation from them for recommending their product. So, if you decide to use the app, great! If not, no problem we hope that you find some other way to be able to earn a few extra bucks each month.
